Electrical Panel Safety. It's Important!

Jul 20, 2026

Your electrical panel is the heart of your home's electrical system, and even small issues can become serious safety hazards if they're overlooked. Things like loose connections, overheating, improper wiring, or outdated equipment can all increase the risk of electrical failures or even fires.

One of the most common issues we see, especially here in south florida, is damage due to humidity. Wiring can become coroded, which makes it heat up more when being used. That can lead to a panel fire! The other thing we see is panel covers oxidizing and leaving large openings where people and children can touch or poke live wires or metal connections. A serious safety hazard!

This is what a corroded panel can look like. See the exposed wiring? That is a safety hazard!
A corroded conductor can heat up far beyond what it is rated for, and melt or cause a panel fire.
This specific panel had corrosion all over its wiring.

During a home inspection, we take a close look at the electrical panel to identify visible defects and help you better understand the condition of your home's electrical system. Catching potential problems early can make your home safer and help you avoid costly repairs down the road.

If you're buying a home or simply want peace of mind, a professional home inspection is a great place to start.
